Dear Candidate,

Thank you for your interest in our organisation and in becoming part of the senior management team here at #TeamThurrock.

Thurrock is already home to some of the most exciting industries and organisations in the country, including the internationally renowned Royal Opera House and three international ports along 18 miles of riverfront. With £20bn of planned investment in new jobs, homes and infrastructure, and 1,000 acres of land ready for business development, Thurrock boasts unrivalled development opportunities right on London’s doorstep.

Thurrock Council boasts the top performing planning authority in the country and council-owned Thurrock Regeneration Ltd is building 1,000 new homes. Alongside this, we have an ambitious £575m capital programme to deliver, including £152m for transport, £200m for housing and £163m for regeneration.

Thurrock Council continues to strive for excellent outcomes for the borough’s young people; our most recent Ofsted inspection in November 2019 saw us achieve ‘Good’ across the board and we are on an ambitious journey to be outstanding, which is well supported by all other Council services.

As the incoming member of the senior management team, you will inherit a strong legacy and a healthy ambition. Our priorities are:

  • People – a borough where people of all ages are proud to work and play, live and stay.
  • Place – a heritage-rich borough which is ambitious for its future.
  • Prosperity – a borough which enables everyone to achieve their aspirations.

Thurrock is home to unrivalled opportunities for new homes and jobs, unlocking high-quality, community-driven and infrastructure-led growth. The Council has the strongest financial position of any unitary authority and has embraced innovation and technology in order to maintain, improve and tailor services to our customers.

Our achievements and ambition reflect the enormous commitment, energy and determination of our officers, elected Members and partners; all working together. The relationship between Members and officers is one of mutual respect, professionalism and ambition to deliver for our residents.

Sustaining those relationships, the momentum, the innovation, the carefully built trust and confidence across our borough and continuing to deliver valued and quality services demands someone special. Thurrock gets business, does business and means business. We need inspiring Assistant Directors to deliver – if that’s you, we look forward to your application and the opportunity of working together.
